Summary:  The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Technician conducts tasks in support of Trident's environmental health and safety program obligations. The EHS Technician performs responsibilities at the direction of EHS Manager or designated lead.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes, and delivers various training and certification programs for compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
  • Tracks and maintains training and certification information according to protocol.
  • Organizes and attends Environmental and/or Safety Committee meetings.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations at meetings
  • Inspects and monitors equipment, work areas, and procedures for compliance with established environmental health and safety rules and regulations.
  • Participates in cleanup, consolidation and/or disposal of materials according to protocol.
  • Responds to emergencies involving pollution and incidents.
  • Develops and distributes monthly safety tips to employees.
  • Develops and executes procedures for testing safety systems and protocols, and ensures testing is documented
  • Evaluates test results and makes recommendations for maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Surveys work sites for potentials hazards, records data, and submits incident and summary reports.
  • Investigates pollution or other environmental incidents that occur.
  • Creates and provides reports and documents as requested.
  • Facilitates Return-to-Work (RTW) program between managers, supervisors, and employees.
  • Attends and provides reports at plant management meetings as requested.
  • Performs activities and protocols to enable the location to achieve and maintain Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) or similar status. 
  • Assists with inspection or other regulatory activities as needed
  • Serves as initial on-site contact and liaison between environmental waste contractors, regulatory inspectors, and Port regulatory personnel.
  • Assists Plant Management, Human Resources and Corporate Safety to deploy and implement the Trident Safety Process and to fully prepare or maintain facilities for OSHA VPP accreditation.

Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Acquires knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions 

Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety trainings

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a current Trident Seafoods employee or have worked for Trident Seafoods before
  • A minimum of 1 year of Environmental Health and Safety related work experience or equivalent education.
  • High school education diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Occupational Health-Safety and/or accredited professional certification or the ability to complete within 6 months
  • HAZWOPER certification or ability to complete within 6 months
  • Experience in the Seafood industry highly desired.

Special Training/Skills:

  • Strong collaboration, analytical, influential, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort interfacing with site management.
  • Must be results-oriented with the ability to drive continuous improvement within the Safety and Occupational Health department as well as the overall organization
  • Strong working knowledge technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
