Summary:

Directs and oversees the activities of the engine room regarding the mechanical operations, repair, and maintenance functions for the vessel by performing the following duties personally:

  • Directs and oversees the functionality and safety of the vessel’s engines, boilers, deck machinery, electrical, hydraulic, refrigeration and sanitary systems in accordance with Trident policy and local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Oversees and establishes the performance and operation standards for all vessel systems.  Resolves problems using solutions that involve appropriate techniques, technologies, or concepts.
  • Must be able to give specific directions in the case of an emergency.  Can include launching a raft, donning an immersion suit or life preserver, assist in a response to fire or flooding.
  • Directs and oversees required documentation for energy management, conservations, and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.

Required Qualifications (education, years of experience, KSAs)

  • 2 years as engineer of a tender vessel in the fishery being applied for.
  • Basic firefighting skills.
  • Current First Aid and CPR cards.
  • Clean vessel safety record.

Additional eligibility requirements (language skills, training, certifications, DL, licensing):

Must be able to hear, understand and respond to commands in English.

Work environment (includes travel/on-call):

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
