Job Summary: Dock key l is a non-supervisory position. Dock personnel assist with all relevant dock operations including, but not limited to;  tie vessels to moorings, loads, unloads, and moves materials/product on and off vessels and/or from dock to storage site. Dock keys are capable of preforming with little need of training or supervision. Keys may be assigned to similar tasks and duties as dock workers as needed by performing the following duties

Essential Functions

  •   Ties/unties incoming/departing vessels to moorings. 

  • Install/adjust/remove gangway as needed. 

  • Deploys/retracts oil boom around vessels as needed.  

  • Monitors tidal fluctuation and makes necessary line adjustments accordingly. 

  • Follows instructions from Dock leads and Foreperson . 

  • Loads and unloads materials or garbage onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand and keeps dock free of debris (cardboard, pallets and garbage). 

  • Loads and unloads vessel, using winches, pumps, and other hoisting devices. Secures lifting attachments to materials and conveys load to destination or signals crane or hoisting operators to move load to destination. 

  • Operates safely equipment within its limitations. 

  • Keeps piers free of debris not part of a specific project. 

  • Notes and reports damage to pier to manager for repair. 

  • Inspects/cleans oil boom as needed. 

  • Maintains good housekeeping in all work areas. 

  • Moves product and other materials to and from storage and production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, ships, and containers, by hand or using trucks, , and other equipment. 

  • Attaches identifying tags or labels to idenify product or marks information on cases, equipment, pallets, or other containers. 

  • Connects hoses and operates equipment to move liquid materials into and out of storage tanks on vessels. 

  • Stacks or assembles materials into bundles or on pallets and bands bundles/pallets together.   

 Additional Responsibilities:   

  • Makes simple adjustments or repairs such as realigning belts or replacing rollers. 

  • Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned. 

  • Operates Crane, forklift, and other equipment with appropriate operators’ licenses.  

  • Assists Quality control tech if necessary. 

  • Identify all incoming fish and properly segregate according to species, grade, size, color. 

  • Coordinate segregation by species to facility fish bins/RSW. 

  • Sanitize and clean the dock and relevant areas at the end of production day.  

Minimum Qualifications: 

Must be a current Trident Seafoods employee or have worked for Trident Seafoods before

Has worked in a key position at a Trident location in the past year. 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: May be required as a function of duties: Crane, forklift, and other applicable operators licenses. 

 Experience: Minimum one year experience. 

 Special Training/Skills: 

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. May require as a condition of duties; driver license, crane operator license, CDL, lift truck operator license. 

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. 

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision and depth perception. 

Mental Activities: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use teamwork skills.  The employee will occasionally use interpersonal and customer service skills.
