Summary: The Category Manager plans, organizes, and controls an assigned line of products with the goal of developing a growth centered product portfolio while expanding margins. This includes, but is not limited to, planning, inventory management, pricing, determining product placement, and promotions to optimize profit and meet growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participates in overall product strategy, research and development and manufacturing for new and current products.
  • Coordinates technical product development and estimates potential profits.
  • Manages budget and product P&L. Analyzes gross margin reports, current volume and profit for assigned categories and recommends strategy and actions to maximize profit and long-term market share.
  • Provides technical expertise and training to other departments in support of product development.
  • Partners closely with Supply and Demand S&OP teams to ensure correct levels of inventory from production through sales and proper signals are being sent for optimal stock(s)
  • Analyzes customers, items and promotions to align strategy with department goals.
  • Collaborates with a wide variety of functional areas such as sales, research and development and operations to develop and provide product definitions that are responsive to customer needs and market opportunities.
  • Implements domestic pricing for various sales channels and communicates pricing/allowances to regional sales managers.
  • Helps prepare product development objectives from conception to market launch. 
  • Increases department efficiency by uncovering low margin items and ensuring efficient storage, labeling and packaging of products. 

Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Verifies price changes & allowances on PO’s to align with intended pricing.
  • Drives domestic promotion strategy, including trade planning and promotional programs.
  • Acquires knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions 
  • Notify designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety training.

This is a salaried exempt position with an annualized salary range of $90k to $125k.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years of category, supply chain, or purchasing management experience
  • A bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business management, or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Extensive knowledge and proficiency in Excel, BI, Smart Sheets, IBP or similar supply chain programming

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Seafood industry experience
  • Ability to collaborate with a wide variety of functional areas such as sales, engineering, marketing, research, and development, purchasing, manufacturing, and operations to develop and provide product definitions responsive to customer needs and market opportunities.
  • Ability to engage with Sales/Commercial groups regarding availability and price and any additional information required by customers.
  • Highly detail-oriented, with strong analytical critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to analyze, organize, and simplify complex problems to develop practical solutions.
  • Strong understanding of project management practices
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to management, peers, employees, and/or external customers.
