Summary: Refrigeration Technicians are expected to supervise and maintain optimal operation of industrial refrigeration systems and associated equipment. This entails preventative maintenance on ammonia and freon systems (if applicable and has 608 cert.), following/enforcing operating procedures, oversee mechanical integrity inspections, perform troubleshooting during operational shutdowns/upsets, collaborate with management and QA/QC to verify optimal temperatures are being reached. Supervise, lead and train others within the refrigeration department.
Expected equipment to service are as follows; Control systems (Manual and Computerized), Plate Freezers, Spiral Freezers, Blast Freezers, Tunnel Freezers, Compressors, Condensers, Purgers, Pumps, RSW Chillers, Ice Machines, HCACR Freezers and Cooler units.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate the system following plant operating and maintenance procedures laid out under the PSM program.
  • Perform annual testing including but not limited to; compressor safeties, EPCS operation, transducer calibrations, RTD calibrations.
  • Capable of communicating with service technicians remotely for troubleshooting when other options are exhausted.
  • Ensuring operators/assistants are maintaining daily system logs and other MI inspections for the PSM program.
  •  Lead routine service, pre/post season maintenance, and repair of the plants refrigeration system.
  •  Troubleshooting control systems when upsets occur.
  •  Prompt Communication with supervisors and management when issues arise.
  •  Collaborate with production and QA/QC to ensure optimal flow of product through the facility.
  •  Schedule personnel shifts for proper coverage as operations require.
  •  Other duties as assigned.
     

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in Tridents PSM program performing repair records, engaging in meetings, and engage in further training.
  • Acquires knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions.
  • Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety trainings.

 

Experience/Traits:

  • Able to carry oneself in a professional manner away from work, representing Trident on and off the clock.
  • 10+ years of Industrial or Commercial Refrigeration Experience (Freon or Ammonia) or Applicable Apprenticeship program.
  • 4 years experience as an Operator 2.
  • Capable of coordination with other Trident facilities or outside resources when upsets or breakdowns occur.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification is optional, but not required.
  • RETA CARO and CIRO certified or willing to obtain CIRO certification within 1 year of employment as provided by Trident Seafoods.
  • Willing to attend continued education classes as provided by Trident Seafoods.
  • Willing to attend CRST RETA training as provided by Trident Seafoods.
  • Current 24-Hr. HAZWoper certificate or willing to obtain certification within 1 year of employment as provided by Trident Seafoods.
  • Interpretation of technical bulletins, service documents and system schematics
  • Ability to read electrical ladder diagrams and knowledge of PLC or logic programs.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task while prioritizing work.
  • Capable of leading a team of operators/assistants during operation and maintenance.
  • Ability to work well under pressure repeatedly for 12+ hrs. a day, 7 days a week.
  • Must have the flexibility to work fluctuating shifts structured around a 24-hr production schedule as needed.
  • Capable of working efficiently in fast paced environment with little direct supervision.
  • Willingness to take on new tasks to assist the team and grow one’s mechanical knowledge of the facility.
  • Must be willing and able to work in close quarters in a multicultural environment
  • Prompt and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
  • Refrigeration Tech Program or job experience preferred.

Qualifications:

  • RETA CARO Certification or equivalent (Optional if CIRO is acquired).
  • RETA CIRO Certification or equivalent (should acquire within 1 year).
  • RETA CRST Certification or equivalent (optional but preferred).
  • 24-Hr. HAZWoper.
