Job Summary

Trident Seafoods is looking for an experienced Logistics Analyst to drive transportation and logistics analytics through reporting and trend analysis.  Trident is in the process of implementing and integrating a Transportation Management System (TMS). A successful candidate must have a good grasp of technology and software implementation methodology. As a member of the global logistics team, the Logistics Analyst maintains and the TMS application to effectively deliver maximum value. The ideal candidate will demonstrate they can design processes, scope business needs, recommend solutions, and finally deploy the decision. 

The Logistics Analyst is responsible for managing Transportation Management business processes (i.e. procurement, Freight Bill Audit & Payment, Shipment Planning & Execution) to ensure that Trident's solutions are meeting customer requirements. This role will handle repeatable analysis and tasks driving continuous cost and service improvement by recommending and implementing stated improvements. This position will require both customer and carrier interfacing.

In addition, this position will provide operational support and business process execution to assist in coordinating communication between the business and key stakeholders to ensure on-time delivery of products to key customers. The Logistics Analyst will interact closely with a cross-functional group of professionals including Marketing, Sales, Finance, and Supply Chain in addition to key Third-Party partners in transportation, warehousing, and Contract Manufacturing.  This position will provide support to Trident’s Alaska, Domestic, and International business units.

Reporting Relationships:

  • Reports: Directly to Vice President of Global Logistics
  • Works within continuous improvement project team

Essential Functions:

  • Understand and gather business requirements to develop either process or technology-based solutions. Leverage change management and project management methodologies to deploy those solutions within a given timeline.
  • Create, maintain and analyze reports and dashboards with a variety of business intelligence tools, such as QlikView, Tableau, Info Assist, Power BI, etc.
  • Develop and deliver training materials relevant to the TMS and processes to a broad base of internal and external users.
  • Develop and maintain a high level of knowledge of the TMS and related services.
  • Ensure that the output of TMS centralized processes meets solution design specifications and customer requirements.  Scrub and maintain master data in the TMS application. Ensure maintenance of accurate, current, and complete logistics data.
  • Provide all support function activity including accuracy and timeliness of data processing, reporting, analysis, and all other customer-specific inquiries
  • Cohesively work with internal Subject Matter Experts (SME) to resolve problems and/or support implementations of solutions associated with logistics and transportation issues.
  • Process and distribute weekly customer metrics and develop customer performance reports
  • Partner with Customer Service, Sales, Transportation 3PL, and Logistics Operations on development and maintenance of Customer Ship-to Lists/Profiles

Transportation Coordination and Management

  • Drive supply chain cost improvement and performance of inbound logistics through daily data analysis of relevant freight and vendor data
  • Provide creative and insightful lane recommendations and options to stakeholders based on data analysis and route optimization output
  • Leverage TMS to engineer optimal fleet trucking routes for Trident locations and dedicated 3rd party hubs.
  • Own the development and maintenance of freight information for assigned lanes/geographies. Operate databases within the logistics management applications (TMS)
  • Develop statistical and financial models related to domestic, ocean, and export shipping
  • Work cross-functionally to aggregate data and conduct service level, cost and transit analysis on the aggregate and unit-level information
  • Determine areas of improvement for inbound and outbound domestic, ocean and export shipping
  • Create a world-class shipping model for identifying areas of need, holes in service offering, and impact to contract changes
  • Lead the budgeting and contract negotiation framework, assisting Operations leadership in carrier pricing and other contract negotiations.
  • Partner with Marketing, Product, and Business Development teams to challenge the status quo and adjust expectations to meet business needs
  • Schedule and monitor Inbound/Outbound freight
  • Track and Trace freight from port to port (i.e.: Key milestones: departure, arrival at ocean port, arrival to destination) for top lanes
  • Create and drive freight forecast and cost estimates with Supply Planning and Sales teams.
  • Order freight and manage the set-up of new lanes and modes of transportation in Trident’s computer systems.
  • Model lane solutions supporting net freight income targets and service level improvements for the inbound supply chain. 
  • Serve as a subject matter expert regarding process and procedures for reviewing and approving optimal route opportunities, logistics systems, and workflows as it relates to freight conversion. 
  • Utilize financial, logistical, and procurement databases/systems to assist in the development, analysis, and modeling of load-related supply chain efficiency improvements.
  • Manage communications with field or other internal/external stakeholders under limited guidance of senior team members 
  • Coordinate with Finance and support claims process with carrier partners, Warehouse 3PL’s and customers for any Accounts Receivable and Customer Accessorial Charges

Data Analysis

  • Proactively monitor critical trend reports and manage Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for On-time delivery, Freight Mode Compliance, Freight Load Optimization.  Perform root cause analysis utilizing TM operating system, formalizing continuous improvement through creation and rollout of SOPs.
  • Measure performance against company’s operational goals (or KPIs) including performance vs budget, on-time performance, tender acceptance, etc.
  • Provide reporting such as rate impact analysis, root cause analysis, and performance reporting to support recommendations.
  • Work with Planning, Procurement, and 3PL’s (Freight and Storage) to optimize service and cost excellence
  • Execute analysis and data preparation in support of sales activities
  • Prepare trend analysis on logistics data and make recommendations about opportunities for performance and cost-saving improvements.

Minimum Requirements

 

Experience:

  • 5+ years of Transportation/Logistics experience required
  • 1 year minimum of analytical experience preferred
  • Meaningful market knowledge of the Transportation and Logistics Industry
  • Experience with logistics / transportation management software (BluJay, JDA, SAP, Oracle, or similar.)
  • Experience with a global food manufacturing company is a plus

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain management, business or related discipline preferred
  • Advanced Degree or certification in supply chain / operations a plus

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Interpersonal effectiveness, strong organizational & communication skills, and the ability to achieve results in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
  • Proven problem-solving ability; comfortable analyzing large data sets and presenting recommendations.
  • Advanced computer skills, including full proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and demonstrated willingness to learn new systems.
  • Global end-to-end supply chain and logistics process knowledge.
  • Continuous Improvement/Lean Supply Chain mindset
