The Category Analyst plays a key role in intimately understanding category, customer, shopper behavior and analytics and internal business drivers to support the development of category driving strategies and plans to maximize profitable and sustainable growth.    The Category Analyst is also responsible for designing and implementing data retention and reporting systems for the commercial teams.  

 Key Responsibilities

  • Provides category insights to define category winning strategies, category drivers and activation plan recommendations
  • Provides analysis on key business and category drivers to identify opportunities for assortment optimization and price/pack/channel architecture
  • Analyzes internal and external sales results to help understand our key customers and shoppers at a granular level, providing in depth understanding into the consumer journey, outlining key buying patterns and behaviors
  • Utilizes external syndicated data to analyze consumer demand. Works with sales teams to develop real and compelling ‘stories’ to improve customer knowledge about our products. 
  • Develops key account presentations using internal and external data. 
  • Manages, designs and creates business reporting systems within the organization.  Upgrades upon existing systems. 
  • Understands how data and information can solve business problems and provide recommendations for process improvement.
  • Creates reports for sales, operations and finance that meet business needs.   

Additional Responsibilities

  • Acquires knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions 
  • Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety training

Minimum Requirements



  • 3+ years prior experience in an analytic role/function.
  • Multi-channel Food industry experience
  • Experience working cross functionally.


  •  Degree in Business / Finance / Marketing


  • Must be computer literate and proficient in Windows and related software applications. High degree of proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint is required
  • Experience using syndicated data such as IRI, SPINS, or ACNielsen
  • Must be able to make presentation and exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills. This includes making complex analysis easy to understand and repeat 
  • Strong background in category management tools, processes, and business consulting
  • Strong analytical skills with all types of data, presenting to retail customers, and computer proficiency
  • Understanding of DSD, 3-tier system, and a strong knowledge of the Retail and Foodservice environments.
  • Excellent follow-up, communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
  • Attention to detail is a must.
  • Must be able to effectively interact with peers, sales teams, marketing teams and upper management 
  • Must have excellent cross functional collaboration skills
