ENGINEERING APPRENTICE

Description
Summary: The Engineering Apprentice will gain experience in marine and/or shoreside engineering in the fundamentals of mechanical, refrigeration, and electrical trades through on-the-job training and related technical instruction as part of a 2-year apprenticeship program. The skills gained in the program will prepare the candidates to be considered for engineering roles throughout Trident.
Key Responsibilities:
- Rotates through different locations, departments and disciplines as directed.
- Assists operators and technicians in the maintenance and operation of related engineering equipment.
- Learns the fundamentals of operating refrigeration, food manufacturing, electrical, and power generation systems while following plant operating and maintenance procedures.
- Assists with Mechanical Integrity Inspections.
- Learns and comprehends basic principles of each discipline as required including refrigeration, electrical, maintenance, and related disciplines.
- Assists with planned maintenance as directed.
- Updates and maintains logs and records.
- Acquires basic proficiency in requirements of PSM program.
- Assists all engineering departments and tasks as needed.
- Completes qualifications and coursework as defined by the apprenticeship program with a passing grade or score.
- Engages in meetings and training and prepares or contributes to projects or presentations as requested.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.
- Acquires knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions.
- Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety trainings.
Minimum Requirements
Experience and Education
- Basic mechanical aptitude and knowledge of food industry preferred.
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
- One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Previous work experience preferred.
Qualifications:
- Ability to work well under pressure repeatedly for 12+ hrs. a day 7 days a week.
- Must have the flexibility to work fluctuating shifts structured around a 24-hr production schedule as needed.
- Willingness to take on new tasks to assist the team and grow one’s mechanical knowledge of the facility.
- Must be able to work in close quarters in a multicultural environment.
- Prompt and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Experience of engineering activities are advantageous but not necessary, including hobbies or volunteer work.
- Proficiency in MS Office suite.
