The Director - Category Management is responsible for creating and implementing Trident’s category strategy and leading the execution of best in class category assortment to drive category penetration and consumption. This leader will be responsible for establishing category management strategies and tactics to accelerate both category and Trident’s portfolio growth.  He/she will partner with key channel decision makers aligning on priorities, insight needs and whitespace identification to drive Trident’s strategic partnerships forward.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directly manages, hires, coaches, leads, and develops a team of category managers and analysts to support the organization's objectives
  • Establishes the strategic vision for multiple sub-categories that aligns with and drives performance toward, enterprise-wide strategic objectives
  • Defines and shapes a category by using insights and data to fully understand customer needs, use cases and behaviors to achieve maximum customer satisfaction
  • Manages the category business metrics and P&L. Identifies opportunities and proactively make adjustments as needed to achieve business targets
  • Develops Category Business Plans (CBP) with Category Managers and adjust them to ensure financial targets are met in the short and long term plans
  • Articulates through budgetary practices, strategic and tactical financial obligations for each category
  • Reconciles growth progress to targets and identifes where focus should be placed by emphasizing or de-emphasizing categories
  • Develops best in class Category Management tools and capabilities to drive dynamic Category and Brand growth for Trident
  • Ensures promotional activities remain locally relevant and meets the go-to-market strategies of the region
  • Builds and implements, based on research and data insights, strategies and plans to both recruit new customers and to develop existing customers via lifecycle management concepts
  • Work cross-functionally with marketing, merchandising, supply chain management, finance etc. to ensure close collaboration as well as holistic planning and execution
  • Executes annual category reviews as part of the product life cycle and develop plans to addresses consumer needs and rationalize underperforming SKUs
  • Works with field ops to collect category performance feedback and lead merchandising planning and plan-o-gram development for assigned categories based on store clusters and shopper information

Additional Responsibilities

  • Acquires knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions 
  • Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety trainings




Minimum Requirements



  • Multi-channel Category Management and/or Sales experience
  • Experience with syndicated data and shopper panel data, software, and measures (IRI, Nielsen, etc.)


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, information management or similar field, MBA preferred


  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to use large data sets to develop insights, identify and present opportunities and recommendations to external stakeholders in a simple story
  • Familiarity using dashboarding software (PowerBI, Qlik, Tableau) and space planning software (JDA, etc.) is preferred
  • Ability to communicate with key stakeholders in a persuasive manner
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
