The Maintenance Operations Manager leads, manages, and is responsible for Vessel Repairs and Maintenance, Facility Maintenance, Vessel Project Management, and the Machine Shop supporting Trident’s safety, quality, schedule, cost, and continuous improvement goals. This position will oversee up to 30 direct and indirect reports. This role will develop and maintain communication at all levels internal to Trident Seafoods to improve overall business processes with an emphasis on trade management and program performance.

Key Responsibilities:
• Plans and projects personnel requirements for vessel, facility/grounds repair and maintenance projects.
• Responsible for developing, monitoring, and evaluating maintenance policies and procedures, examining equipment, systems, or facilities, and analyzing information to determine needed repairs, services, or installations.
• Monitors and manages the work force resources, quality, safety, and schedule performance.
• Ensures all employees are properly supervised and have all the necessary tooling, equipment, specifications, drawings, and procedures to properly accomplish their jobs.
• Deconflicts work and informs the Port Engineers and Project Manager of any potential problem that may jeopardize completion of quality work within scope and schedule.
• Monitors operations for continuous process improvement opportunities.
• Must be able to read, comprehend, and articulate architectural drawings and schematics.
• Monitors trade/shop rework trends and implements corrective actions.
• Works with trades/shops to develop training plans and ensures all personnel, including temporary labor, have been properly trained.
• Coordinates with multiple stakeholders and forecast jobs in a timely manner.
• Responsible for trade performance to meet contract quality, safety, schedule, and budget performance.
• Communicates and advises to stakeholders on estimates, progress, and cost data.
• Develops preventive maintenance program in conjunction with engineering and maintenance staff.
• Plans, develops, and implements new methods and procedures and enforces current procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials.
• Requisitions tools, equipment, and supplies required for operation.
• Confers with management, engineering, and quality control personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.
• Daily collaboration and communication with other supervisors, managers, and staff members to formulate and implement policies/procedures in order to achieve goals and objectives.
• Performs all job functions in accordance with Trident Seafoods Mission, Vision, Values and Principles.

Additional Responsibilities:

Acquires knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions.

Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety trainings.

Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

 

Experience:
• Strong experience with Microsoft Office Suite
• Knowledge of ABS/DNV welding requirements preferred. • Proven experience managing time and materials and supervising the work of others.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to swiftly implement solutions for problems that arise.


Education:
• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university is preferred.
• Associate-level degree plus 2 years directly related experience or 10 years directly related ship building/ship repair experience in a supervisory role.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification desirable, but not required.


Qualifications:
• In-depth knowledge in all facets pertaining to weld repairs of vessels.
• Working knowledge of estimating procedures.
• Demonstrated knowledge and utilization of production processes, methods, quality, and technology.
• Effective leadership skills including communication, multitasking, and team-building skills.


Special Training/Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to supervisor and other employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.


Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditionsmoving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and is frequently vessel based. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.


Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is frequently required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.


Mental Activities:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to understand English, and utilize teamwork skills. The employee is frequently required to speak English, and use decision making skills. The employee is occasionally required to use interpersonal, customer service, mentoring, problem analysis, training and supervision skills. The employee will be occasionally required to read and write English, perform basic math, use exercise independent judgment, and use discretion.
