Summary:

The Welder Lead works with a variety of arc and gas welding equipment to fabricate or repair structures, machine parts, and plant/shipboard equipment. The employee will be trained and expected to be able to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and sketches; take directions verbally and understand and execute projects.


Key Responsibilities:

• Sets up job site with welding equipment according to standards.

• Ensures and maintains productivity in workforce by assisting welders as needed.

• Maintains job site safety by adhering to Trident and government safety standards.

• Learns to troubleshoots welding equipment problems.

• Maintains flow of materials needed on jobs.

• Introduced to welding and fabrication, schematics, drawings, blueprints, measurements, cleaning workpieces, welding hoses, and cables.

• Welds structural and non-structural steel and metal parts together using stick welding.

• Proficient at utilizing measuring devices and cutting materials to specifications.

• Knowledgeable of proper rigging procedures.

• Proficient in the use of bandsaws, grinders, needle guns, and basic mechanical skills.

• Proficient at welding with SMAW, FCAW, MIG and/or TIG, and dual shield methods on carbon steel, aluminum, and/or stainless steel.

• Must have demonstration-level experience in proper rigging procedures.

• Able to operate manual wire feed welders and automatic welder to produce quality welds utilizing the appropriate welding wire, heat, arc, speed, depth, and bead size of weld for the weld requirement.

• Able to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and drawings.

• Displays ability to lead, manage, and supervise welding projects.

• Must be able to troubleshoot and communicate to supervisors and coworkers to resolve welding problems.

• Complies with and enforces all safety requirements.

• Maintains clean and orderly work site.

• Able to respond quickly to priority changes and work well under pressure due to scheduling constraints and perform quality work in a safe and efficient manner.

• Works with stainless steel, exotic metals, food grade fabrication, and vessel repair.

• Expertly fits parts to be welded.

• Self-motivated and able to work independently and to lead by example.

• Responsible for leading, managing, and supervising welding and or fabricating projects with limited oversight.

• Able to communicate to supervisors and coworkers to resolve welding or fabrication problems.

• Able to identify and is capable of ordering parts and materials as needed for projects.

• Complies with and enforces all safety requirements. Maintains clean and orderly work site.

• Regularly supervises and leads a team to complete complex projects.

• Performs administrative activities associated with the effective management of department operations.

• Maintains target quality of job progress by regularly monitoring and evaluating.

• Ensures jobs move at optimum speed by ordering materials at appropriate times and at appropriate levels.

• Trains and ensures all department employees are aware of and comply with government and company policies, procedures, and regulations.

• Reviews production and operating reports and directs the resolution of operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.

• Works with representatives of governmental regulatory bodies such as EPA, OSHA, and the FDA.

• Maintains a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.

• Continues to grow lean knowledge and use the tools to identify and assist with continuous improvement.

• Acquires knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions

• Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety trainings.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

 

Experience:

• Working position with a minimum of 7 years’ experience in SMAW and dual shield welding while leading teams or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

• TIG/MIG/Aluminum/Stainless Steel/ARC expertise and ability to explain concepts required.

• Knowledge of ABS/DNV welding requirements a must.


Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent GED, Associate Degree or skilled trades graduate preferred for more experienced positions, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Qualifications:
 

• All positions must pass Trident Weld Test(s).
 

• Demonstration of welding carbon steel, aluminum, CuNi, stainless steel, and pipe.
 

• ABS certified or the ability to pass ABS certification test within 90 days of employment.

Special Training/Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to supervisor and other employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.


Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.


Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.


Mental Activities:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to understand English, and utilize teamwork skills. The employee is frequently required to speak English, and use decision making skills. The employee is occasionally required to use interpersonal, customer service, mentoring, problem analysis, training and supervision skills. The employee will be occasionally required to read and write English, perform basic math, use exercise independent judgment, and use discretion.

 


This is an Hourly – Non-Exempt position with an hourly rate range of: $34.08 /hr The starting wage for this position is $34.08/hr.
